Position Description
Position Title: Electrical Designer
Department: LED Engineering
Reports To: Director of Controls Engineering
Position Summary:
Overall electrical system design of laser processing systems for both internal usage and external customers. This includes design of AC and DC power distribution, sizing of electrical components, interfacing to various subsystem components, including lasers, vision systems, motion controllers, analog and digital sensors, and numerous other electrical components.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design and creation of the electrical control system including control system architectural diagrams, electrical schematics, panel layouts, and bills of materials
- Utilize various types of electronic test equipment to test, adjust, set-up and troubleshoot laser processing systems
- Usage of various computer programs such as electrical design software, word processors, spread sheets, and Syspro in the design process
- Interface with customers at a technical level and assist with some system installations and customer service problems
- Incorporate specific customer specifications and standards into the electrical system design
- Write procedures, specifications and standards for implementation by the electrical design group
Hiring Qualifications:
- Two year minimum technical degree in electrical/electronic theory or related field plus 2-3 years of related experience
- Familiarity and technical knowledge in the following areas is highly desirable:
- AutoCad Electrical design software
- Machine control with PCs and PLCs
- Motion control design using purchased hardware and software
- Laser safety, system safety, CE certification requirements and EMI immunity, NPFA79 - Ability to communicate and work in a team environment.
Physical Demands:
- Direct and phone communications with customers, component suppliers, company personnel, and contract personnel
- Travel to customer facilities for design, installation, and service related activities
- Extended hours of sitting and viewing a computer screen
- Occasional standing or working in a shop environment
